How to Make Your Own Laundry Detergent

You can try making your own when you're looking to save money on laundry detergent.

You can use baking soda, Borax, Vinegar, or Castile soap. Even a few bags of trash cans can work as laundry detergent. The first step is to tie the bags together.

Next, put them into a second trash bag, and roll them around for a few minutes.

If you'd like, add a packet of silica gel to absorb moisture from your clothes. Once you're done, pour the mixture into a clean airtight container.

What To Use When making Your Own Laundry Detergent?

Baking Soda

This natural cleaning agent can be used in a top or front load washing machine.

A heaping tablespoon of the soapy substance should be placed on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper

This mixture should be sprinkled with a small amount of plain water and allowed to dry overnight. It will wash an average size load.

This soapy substance is safe to use in standard and high-efficiency washing machines. To create your own homemade laundry detergent, simply grate the soap and add the other ingredients.

Borax

When you're running low on detergent, it can be easy to mix up your own at home. All you need is a granular bar of soap, some Borax, washing soda, and essential oils. You can even add scent to it if you wish.

The first step is to grate your soap bar and add it to the granular mixture. For a large load of laundry, use 1-2 tablespoons of the granular detergent, leaving a few tablespoons in a container for easy use.

Vinegar

White vinegar is an excellent detergent substitute that will help you avoid the cost of expensive commercial brands. In addition to removing stains, white vinegar can soften fabrics and prevent odors.

Simply follow these steps!

Combine 1 cup of vinegar and one gallon of water.

Stir the ingredients together, and then slowly add the liquid ingredients.

If you would like to add fragrance to your detergent, you can use lavender essential oil or lavender-scented soap.

Castile soap

If you want to make your own laundry detergent, all you need is two bars of Castile soap and a small amount of borax or washing soda.

You can also use washing soda and arm and hammer super washing soda or baking soda. Pour the hot water over the dry ingredients and stir well.

Pour the mixture into a one-gallon jar and label it. Add a few drops of essential oils to your mixture if you want a scented version.
